Lack of logic, not talent, has Windies in a spin by Simantini Dey Oct 15, 2014 23:01 IST #Arnab Goswami #Bollywood #facebook #Happy New Year #Shah Rukh Khan #ViralVideo We all know that Shah Rukh Khan is the king of romance, advertisements and well, promotions; and by the look of things, he isn't leaving any stone unturned to promote his next release Happy New Year.
Khan, who always comes up with innovative promotional strategies has now turned his attention to social media. In order to grab the attention of tweeple and Facebook users, the actor has tied up with The Viral Fever videos and released a funny video of him giving an interview to a fake Arnab Goswami. Given that the video has already started trending, it seems Khan's promotional plan is already working.

You can watch the video here:
In the video, we see Khan trying a bit too hard to act cool and make fun of himself as well as Arnab Goswami. However, the video isn't nearly half as fun as All India Bakchod's Genius of The Year video featuring Alia Bhatt.
To begin with, we can all imagine a loud, boisterous Arnab Goswami, who is more curious than Curious George and asks more questions, than a five-year-old kid. God knows we have seen Goswami thundering on his panelists at the New Hour, enough times, to get use to his idiosyncrasies and catch phrases (like the nation wants to know) but the Arnab, or rather the Arnub that we see in this video is quite different from the Goswami we know.
While the actor who plays Arnub tries desperately to make fun of Goswami's personality and ticks, he fails miserably. The Arnub that we see interviewing Khan in this TVF video isn't nearly as over-the-top or animated as Goswami himself but also surprisingly promiscuous. In the video we see Arnub asking for Deepika Padukone's number from Khan and then confessing his desire to marry Anushka Sharma.
However, the fake Goswami trying to be funny and failing at it, isn't the only horrible thing about the video. It is astonishing to see Shah Rukh Khan failing miserably to play himself onscreen. In fact, when he says in the video, " I have never depended on great films, mine is just luck." you have to really think hard about the few good films he has done in his career to know that the statement isn't true and it's just Khan trying to tickle our funny bones with his sarcastic sense of humour.
While Khan does reveal some truths packed with humour in the video, like when he confesses that with Happy New Year, he is trying to revive Farah Khan's career, for most parts of the video we see him trying to be smug. What is even worse is that Khan is known to have a good sense of humour and is generally quite a sport and good humoured in his interview, however, in this fake interview, he is neither.
All in all, this fourteen minute video, aptly titled Barely Speaking with Arnub sounds too drab to be funny and to make things worse the repeated references to Happy New Year makes us painfully aware that it is nothing but a promotional gimmick and that too very half-heartedly done.
